About us

The Asian Association of Chesterfield & North Derbyshire is a registered charity (Registered Charity Number: 1183943), founded in 1982, with the aim of promoting the culture, education, health and welfare of Asian people residing in Chesterfield and North Derbyshire. Since 2009, the Asian Centre remains a focal point for the community members which facilitates numerous cultural activities and organises educational and recreational activities with improved links to the wider community.

The Association is fully inclusive and welcoming irrespective of cultural background, religion or ethnicity. We have a wide range of ethnicities amongst our services users, these include: Bangladeshi, Indian, Nepali, Pakistani and British people. This helps people from across our area to meet, learn and socialise with each other. We provide the following activities to help people progress in their lives and enable them to integrate into local life and activities:

Information and advice on welfare, health and social issues, assist with interpretation and translation.
Represent members’ views to statutory authorities and advise on community issues.
Develop improved links with the wider community.
Promoting Asian culture and heritage within the Asian and wider community.
Encourage social integration
Combat discrimination through education and dialogue.
Support members and long-term carers who are socially isolated or with long-term health issues engage with local authorities and welfare institutions with relevant social projects.
Provide volunteers the support and training for personal development to help them get employment.
